The American Cancer Society has played a role in every major breast cancer research breakthrough in the past century, saving and improving lives through leading-edge discoveries with Mammogram and MRI screenings, breast-saving lumpectomies, Tamoxifen to reduce the risk of recurrence, and Herceptin to improve the chances of survival. Current project of the ACS include pioneering research to: understand the impact of genetics on response to treatment, find ways to eliminate cancer-causing cells, and develop new, less damaging therapies.
On Sunday, October 18 a group of staff from She She and The Merra-Lee Shops will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s 5K “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk at the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora, IL. Ninety-six cents of every dollar raised by walkers will be invested in:
- Research into the causes of breast cancer, prevention and cures
- Hands-on services to improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families
- Programs to help all women receive access to mammograms and life saving treatments.
